I'm Tobias Schümann. I live in Germany, where I build in the clouds.

How did I actually get to the cloud? By a problem, of course.

What happened? We launched an app for an event in 2014, which became an overnight success. The backend was built on a dedicated server at a hosting provider.

Then on the last day before the event, the problems came and the server was unavailable due to the traffic. I worked almost 2 days and nights to get the server up and running again. During this time we received thousands of problem messages from our customers.

After this experience I thought to myself that I don't want to have such an experience again. After some research I ended up with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

For the subsequent event, I built the backend on serverless technology. The scaling and cost problems were now a thing of the past.

Let's get to the point. I see the biggest advantage in the cloud that really EVERYONE, no matter if startup, small business, mid-sized company or corporation can access exactly the same technologies. No barriers to entry.

Cloud is for everyone.
