Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.
I get asked a lot about the things I use to build software, stay productive, or buy to fool myself into thinking I’m being productive when I’m really just procrastinating. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.
Workstation
- Apple Mac mini with Apple M1 chip, 8GB RAM (2021)- I was using an Intel-based 16” MacBook Pro prior to this and the difference is night and day. I've never heard the fans turn on a single time, even under the incredibly heavy loads I put it through with our various launch simulations.
- Height-adjustable Desk- Last year I had enough of sitting all day. Especially in long meetings, it's a great advantage to be able to stand up sometimes.
- Apple Magic Keyboard- They are simple and I like to write on them.
- Logitech MX Master 3 for Mac- If you don't want the evenings to hurt your hands, buy this mouse.
- Widescreen Monitor - LG 38WK95C-W- The gateway to the Otherworld and the clouds.
- Normal Monitor - Viewsonic VX3276-2K-MHD-2- The gateway to the Otherworld and the clouds.
- Small Monitor - ASUS ZenScreen MB16ACM- The gateway to the Otherworld and the clouds.
Development tools
- Visual Studio Code- The all-in-one tool for every Developer. Simple and powerful with a lot of extensions.
- iTerm2- I'm honestly not even sure what features I get with this that aren't just part of the macOS Terminal but it's what I use.
Productivity
- Alfred- It's not the newest kid on the block but it's still the fastest. The Sublime Text of the application launcher world.
